Hello loves! Today I wanted to do a quick catch-up of the past five weeks of my pregnancy for you all. Let you know the symptoms I've been having, what I've been feeling, and other exciting stuff as well. From now on out, I really would like to do each week as an individual post so they aren't too long so be expecting that to come in the following weeks.
Starting with 5 weeks (be prepared for mostly iPhone pictures, sorry!), this is when my symptoms really started kicking in. The day I turned five weeks I literally felt like I was being hit by a brick wall of nausea. Overwhelming, hard to control, nausea. It wasn't pretty and unfortunately it stuck around and still won't leave me alone. It's like a mosquito you just can't swat away. Since this was my first time really dealing with nausea like this, I wasn't sure how to cope with it. I wasn't really eating because I was scared to but I knew I had to so when I did eat, it was few and far between. I would lay in bed all week and basically just sleep my life away because sleeping was the only thing that could curb it for me. But Brian was not having that, so when I was 5 weeks and 6 days we went to the ER where they gave me some medication to help me cope with the nausea, and of course since I hadn't been eating properly, I was also dehydrated so they put two saline bags in me as well. Quite the visit, if you ask me. Along with the nausea, which is the biggest and most reoccurring symptom I've had, I was still feeling fatigued and a bit irritable because of it.
Now, moving along to 6 weeks pregnant. The same symptoms were still lingering around, such as the nausea and fatigue and even my boobs still being a bit tender. However, I was also starting to come across some new symptoms, such as occasional headaches, cramping, and frequent urination. My headaches were off and on this week and since then I haven't really noticed having them (crossing my fingers!) so I'm glad it was just a one-time thing. I also noticed this week I was cramping a bit. The cramps were really strong, right in my back and would last about a minute before disappearing completely. I believe it was due to my uterine wall stretching to adjust for baby so I wasn't too concerned about them. Also, the frequent urination, up until this point I hadn't been using the bathroom more often than normal but at six weeks, I was in and out constantly. Another thing I noticed this week was that I started having minor cravings for things. Not full-blown pregnancy "I will kill for this," cravings but definitely wanting something a little more than usual. First up on my list, red Ring Pops & a Smithfield's BBQ Sandwich!
Next up was my seventh week of pregnancy! Again, the same dreadful symptoms such as nausea and fatigue. But this week I started noticing that I was having very vivid, and terrifying nightmares. Every night this week I would wake up at 3AM gasping because I couldn't quite believe how horrifying my dreams were. Pretty scary stuff! I was also waking up with a bloody nose often, or more like bloody snot, YUCK! Speaking of noses, my bionic pregnant woman nose kicked in and I could smell literally everything. One time our neighbor, down the block, was mowing their lawn and I could smell the fresh cut grass from three houses away, no kidding! This was also the week that my constipation kicked in and this has got to be up there with nausea as one of my worst symptoms. I also noticed that my lips were becoming very dry & chapped and I'm not quite sure why because I've been drinking a ton of water. This week I also noticed that I started bloating a little more. I'm not sure if you can tell by the photo but I can see a little bit of a difference from 5 weeks until now in the bloating department.
Moving along to 8 weeks pregnant. Should I even say that I was nauseous and fatigued this week, or did you already guess? But yes, those symptoms were still there and still going strong. Also with the frequent urination, constipation, my lips being chapped and of course bloating. I wasn't experiencing any new symptoms this week but I still was having all of my dreaded ones.
Now into my 9th week of pregnancy. Again, this week I was having all of the same symptoms. Nausea, fatigue, dry lips, bloating, major constipation (notice I added MAJOR this week) and a new one which was a lack of energy. I work as a barista so having no energy is seriously not a good thing when at work. I hardly wanted to move at all while I was there and our regulars could definitely tell something was up with me. I'm patiently waiting for that burst of energy everyone says is coming, but I don't think it will make it aboard my pregnancy train anytime soon.
Finally we have arrived at this week, or my 10th week of pregnancy. Finally in those double digits and almost out of my first trimester, man am I excited. This week my symptoms have all been pretty much the same, the nausea, fatigue, and constipation. But I've also noticed this week that my baby belly doesn't just come and go like it did when I was bloating. It is here and it is prominent! I can't seem to tell how I'm going to be carrying yet (high or low) but I'm excited that I actually look pregnant now and not just bloated.
I did do a corresponding video to this post if you'd like to see me actually talk about my symptoms in full, and you can see that here. But I can't wait to start doing these posts weekly for you all as well as doing a post here soon on my past two doctor's appointments and sharing those stories with you as well. I have many posts coming up for you so I hope you clicked that follow button and I can't wait to continue sharing my journey with you all.
xo, Kirsten
